Fire crews respond to grass fire west of Kearney
Fire crews respond near Glenwood Corner Tuesday afternoon
KEARNEY, Neb. — Firefighters responded to a grass fire west of Kearney Tuesday afternoon near Glenwood Corner.
Dispatch received the call around 2:40 p.m. for a fire west of the roundabout at Highway 10 and Highway 40, prompting a response from the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department.
The cause was an arc from an electrical line, according to the KVFD Fire Administrator, Jason Whalen. He says it burned about the size of a football field.
While on scene, News Channel Nebraska saw Dawson Public Power crews replacing downed overhead power lines, in addition to working on a transformer.
There were no injuries, and while it got close, Whalen tells NC there were no structures were involved.
At least 20 firefighters were on scene.
Buffalo County is in a burn ban until further notice.
