Guam leaders and members of support  gathered Friday for a proclamation signing declaring March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of equity, inclusion, and the value of diverse workforce.

Executive director Jermaine Alerta of the Developmental Disabilities Council shared heartfelt words about inclusion, support, and the importance of empowering individuals with developmental disabilities.

"It is also a reminder that the voices and experiences of people with developmental disabilities matter, not just during this month, but every day of the year. Here in Guam we continue working together with families, self advocates, service providers, and community partners to build a community where everyone belongs and everyone has the opportunity to live, learn, work, and participate fully. Because people with developmental disabilities are not just part of the story of our community, they have always been here, now, then, and always," he said.

As Guam recognizes Developmental Disabilities Month, leaders encourage the community to continue promoting inclusion, understanding and opportunity to all.
