Stephen Dunn
1954-2026
Stephen Dunn, born September 24, 1954, to Richard and Joann Dunn, passed away on January 29, 2026 in Nixa, MO.
Stephen lived life on his own terms and never met a stranger. He loved the simple, honest things—fishing, hiking, gardening, camping in a tent, and striking up conversations with anyone willing to talk, especially veterans. He took pride in tending his garden, finding the same peace in growing things as he did being in the outdoors.
Stephen was owner and manager of Brown Shoe Fit Company for many years.
He had a deep love for the open road and could often be found riding his Harley motorcycles, feeling most at peace with the wind at his back.
Dogs held a special place in Stephen’s heart. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved Effiny, Killy, and Rocky, and leaves behind his cherished companions Piper and Stella, who were never far from his side.
Stephen was a former member of ABATE of Kansas and a proud, current member of ABATE District 1 of Colorado, where he found brotherhood, purpose, and community among those who shared his passion for riding and freedom.
In Stephen's own words: “I’m always Dunn, but this time I am really Dunn.” Those words perfectly capture his wit, honesty, and the way he faced life—and now his passing—with authenticity and a grin.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife Loretta Dunn, son Jax Dunn, step-sons Joshua Kinder and Joey (Simone) Kinder, grandchildren Addy and Boston Kinder, brother Greg (Lanette) Dunn, sister Suzy (Paul) McCune, his father Richard “Dicky” Dunn, and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Stephen is preceded in death by his mother Joann.
