Richard J. "Dick" Dunn
1930-2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Jean Dunn, affectionately known as Dick, who passed away on February 7, 2026. Born to Marvin and Francis (Pearson) Dunn on March 30, 1930, in Keota, IA, Richard lived a life that was marked by unwavering dedication, a spirit of adventure, and a heart of generous love. As the poet Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This sentiment captures the essence of how Richard lived his life and how he will be remembered by all who knew him.
Richard was a proud graduate of Fairfield High School, and later attended Parsons College. He was the epitome of commitment and hard work, having spent his entire career at Browns Shoes from 1944 until his retirement in 1989. His dedication and leadership did not go unnoticed, as he became the youngest person to be named store manager for the company at the age of 26.He and Esther Joan "Jo" Pearson were married in Falls City, NE on November 1, 1953. They lived in Falls City until moving to Beatrice in 1956. His adventurous spirit led him to serve as a past member and president of the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and the Beatrice Gun Club. He also served on the Beatrice Airport Authority Board for 18 years. Richard was generous not only in giving his time to the community but also in sharing his love for hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and the outdoors.
Richard leaves behind his son, Greg (Lanette) Dunn, daughter Susan (Paul) McCune , and daughter-in-law, Loretta Dunn; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Francis Dunn, his beloved wife Joan Dunn, and his son Steve Dunn. Richard was a dedicated family man, and what mattered most to him was being with his family. His adventurous spirit, love for the outdoors, and generous heart will be missed by all who knew him.
Celebration Of Life Services for Dick and his son Steve Dunn will take place on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 608 Elk Street, Beatrice, Nebraska, 68310. The church will livestream the service. There will no viewing or visitation as cremation has taken place. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice, NE. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Gun Club with the funeral home in charge.
