BEATRICE, Neb. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team couldn’t find enough offense in dropping a doubleheader to Southeast Community College in conference action Monday.

Game one saw Southeast plate five runs in the third inning and that was enough for the Bobcats as they earned the 7-1 win. Game two saw Southeast go up 5-0

WNCC and Southeast wrap up the series with a doubleheader Tuesday in Beatrice.

Game one saw WNCC strike first. Graci Holm had a 2-out walk and scored on a Jasmin Castro hit that resulted in an error for the 1-0 lead. Southeast tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the frame and then plated five in the third for the 6-1 lead.

WNCC had just three hits in the contest, all singles from Tina Horton, Tori Travers, and Jasmine Castro.

Game two saw Southeast plate two runs each in the first and fourth and one in the third for the 5-0 lead. The Cougars, however, kept things close with some big plays defensively to thwart Bobcat scoring opportunities.

It was the sixth that a leadoff triple for Southeast resulted in the Bobcats plating one run and then WNCC got out of the inning as Abbey Arntsen got the third out to strike out with the bases loaded for the 6-1 lead.
WNCC had one final at bat in the seventh and had some seventh-inning magic going. Gracie Holm and Jasmine Castro led off the seventh with back-to-back singles. With one out, Ellie Soper then scored one run with a hit. Emma Murdock then came up with an infield error that scored another run. Soper made it 6-3 as she stole home.

WNCC kept the rally going as Tina Horton singled up the middle. Tori Travers followed with a double to make it 6-4. After a Southeast pitching change, WNCC couldn’t get another run to end the game.

WNCC managed eight hits in the contest, led by Castro with three hits. Travers had the only extra base hit with a double.
