RAPID CITY, S.D. – With CSC's heavy hitters in the sprints and jumps taking the weekend off, the Chadron State College track and field team turned to the throwers for highlights at Grubby's Easter Classic hosted by South Dakota Mines in Rapid City on Saturday.

Two Chadron State women's throwers – November Diers in the javelin and Shelby Ekwall in the shot put – won their respective events, but the most impressive mark of the day for the Eagles likely belonged to Sydney Alles in the hammer throw.

Alles, a junior, sent the hammer 48.67 meters (159 feet, 8 inches), a career best by nearly nine feet. While Alles finished second in the event on Saturday, her mark is the sixth-farthest in the RMAC this season and now sits at No. 26 in NCAA Division II.

Diers won the javelin throw with a career-best mark of 36.70 meters, or 120 feet, 5 inches. Diers's throw exceeded her winning mark at Chadron's home meet that opened the Eagles' outdoor season by eight inches.

Shelby Ekwall shoved the shot put 13.39 meters, or 43-11.75, good for first in that event. Ekwall won the shot put at five indoor meets in early 2026 and she was the runner-up at the RMAC Indoor Championships with a career-best of 14.07 meters, or 46 feet, 2 inches.

Two CSC discus throwers also placed second. They are Ashlyn Tapio, who sailed the platter 37.84 meters (124-1), and Tavion Leatherdale, whose best toss traveled 42.51 meters (139-5).

Eagles placing third included Casey Miller in the men's shot put and Keaton Mills and Kristie Jordan in the javelin. Allison Beard placed fourth in the women's javelin with a career-best throw of 30.08 meters (98-8), giving CSC three of the top four finishers in that event.

Jayda Rahming was the only CSC woman to enter a track event and she placed second among seven entries in the 800. Also for the CSC women, Hannah Rathmann won the long jump (15-9) and Mataya Ward won the triple jump (34-9.5), both uncontested.

Saturday's meet included athletes from CSC, South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State, with a couple of entries from NAIA school Dakota State. CSC Coach Jake Gruver said he'd put his track athletes through rigorous workouts this past week and thought they'd benefit by skipping a meet this weekend.
