KEARNEY, Neb. — Local photographers are being featured in a new community exhibit hosted by the Kearney Area Arts Council.

The council recently launched its first-ever community photographer exhibition, showcasing 26 images selected from submissions by photographers across central Nebraska.

“We didn’t choose a theme or specific parameters because we wanted people to have the freedom to submit things about everyday life and share a photograph they’re proud of,” said Kearney Area Arts Council Executive Director Brad Driml.

Five independent judges reviewed the submissions and selected 26 finalists for the exhibit.

Many of the photographers come from communities in the area, including Kearney, Lexington, Shelton and Gibbon.

Driml said the response from the community has been strong.

“This is a first-time project for us, and it’s been pretty well received so far, so we’re hoping to continue it next year,” he said.

The exhibit is currently on display at the Merryman Performing Arts Center and will remain available for the public to view through the end of May during regular hours.
