Michael D. Ward

Michael D. Ward, 71 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026 at CHI Health St. Elizabeth in Lincoln. He was born on April 21, 1954 in Fairbury to Lester and Susan (Geiber) Ward. Michael served his country in the United States Army from December 23, 1971 to October 19, 1973 and then 3 years in the Nebraska Army National Guard. He married Bettie Ackerman on March 3, 1973. Michael worked at BSDC for over 25 years before his health forced him to retire. He was a simple man and a good father who enjoyed yardwork, politics and traveling to Fairbury to help his mother. 

Michael is survived by his wife, Bettie; children, Travis Ward of Lincoln, Dawn Lee Smith and husband Nathan Sr. of Fairbury, Blaze Claassen of Kentucky; grandchildren, Nathan Smith Jr., Jordan Smith, Paige Smith; and great grandchildren, Oaklyn Smith and Sophia Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Larry Ward.
