Guam leaders, members of the Red Cross, and dedicated volunteers gathered Friday for a proclamation signing, all working together to make the island stronger and better prepared for the future.

Newly-appointed executive director of the American Red Cross Guam Chapter Ken Quintanilla highlighted the team’s dedication and the importance of supporting the community.

"I think the work of the volunteers and the team doesn’t stop between storms. Every single day, rain or shine volunteers are conducting training, they are installing smoke detectors, supporting military families and staying prepared and ready for whatever comes next," he said. :You may not always see the work in motion, but you can always feel comfort knowing that it’s there, rooted in the compassion and commitment of our volunteers, our donors, and our partners. That’s what makes our Guam chapter so special, at least to me, our people and our volunteers. Our island people are so resilient, but even the most resilient needs support sometimes, and a lot of that it can be attributed to our volunteers, our regional teams visiting, our community partners, government leaders like both of you, and our corporate sponsors, they make that support possible, bringing skill, heart, and humanity to families in some of the most difficult times in their life."

With the proclamation signing, Guam officially celebrates Red Cross Month, a reminder of the people who step up, give back, and care for the community when it matters most.
