Port of Guam meets with federal maritime leaders
Guam continues to work with federal partners to strengthen the port’s infrastructure
The Port Authority of Fuam met with U.S. Maritime Administration deputy administrator Sang H. Yi in Washington, DC to discuss critical infrastructure priorities and the port’s role in supporting regional commerce, national security, and energy logistics in the Indo-Pacific.
Port officials highlighted ongoing modernization efforts to ensure Guam’s only commercial seaport remains capable of handling growing cargo demands. About 90 percent of Guam’s imported goods pass through the port, including military-related cargo supporting operations in the Western Pacific.
Leaders also emphasized the need to upgrade cargo handling equipment, including ship-to-shore gantry cranes, to maintain operational readiness and support both civilian and defense logistics.
The meeting comes as Guam continues to work with federal partners to strengthen the port’s infrastructure and reinforce its role as a strategic hub for the region.
