Leaders from the Port Authority of Guam met with officials from the U.S. maritime administration in Washington D.C. to discuss infrastructure priorities and the strategic role of the Port of Guam in the Indo-Pacific.

Port Vice Chair Conchita Taitano, General Manager Rory J. Respicio, and Chief Planner Joe Javellana met with MARAD Deputy Administrator Sang H. Yi at the agency’s headquarters while attending the American Association of Port Authorities annual legislative summit.

Discussions focused on the Port’s modernization efforts and long-term infrastructure needs as Guam’s only commercial seaport continues to support both the island’s economy and U.S. national security operations in the Western Pacific.

Officials noted that about 90% of Guam’s imported goods pass through the Port, including a significant portion of military-related cargo.

The Port team also shared its “Look Ahead 2026” strategic framework, which outlines investments in modernization, operational efficiency, and long-term resiliency, including upgrades to critical cargo handling equipment such as ship-to-shore gantry cranes needed to service modern container vessels.
