Simon Sanchez High School proudly celebrated the return of Sharkchella 2026 on February 28, 2026, at the JFK Gymnasium. With this year’s theme, “Genres: Every Sound, Every Style,” the annual event continued a dynamic tradition that first began in 2017.

Originally launched as a showcase for student talent, Sharkchella was created to provide Sharks with a platform to express their creativity through music, performance, and storytelling.

Over the years, the event has evolved into an electrifying competition between grade levels, with each class taking the stage to represent its unique sound, style, and spirit. What began as a celebration of talent has grown into one of the most anticipated and spirited class showdowns on campus.

This year, each class brought a distinct musical theme to life:

Class of 2026

“When Rhyme Meets Rhythm” A fusion of hip-hop and contemporary beats, showcasing lyrical flow, rhythm, and bold stage presence.

Class of 2027

“Dirty Little Secret” A high-energy tribute to alternative and classic rock influences, delivering electrifying performances and rebellious flair.

Class of 2028

“Soul of the Sharks” A celebration of R&B and soul, highlighting powerful vocals, emotion, and smooth performance styles.

Class of 2029

“Chords of Romance” A melodic journey through love songs and heartfelt ballads, blending pop and timeless romantic anthems.

After an evening filled with energy, creativity, and fierce Shark pride, the final results were announced. The Class of 2027 captured 1st Place with their electrifying rock-inspired performance. The Class of 2026 earned 2nd Place, followed by the Class of 2028 in 3rd Place, and the Class of 2029 placing 4th in their Sharkchella debut.

Assistant Principal Keith Quiambao reflected on the evening’s results and the incredible energy inside the gym, “What an unforgettable night for Sharkchella 2026. Watching each class bring their theme to life was absolutely exciting from start to finish. The Class of 2027 truly electrified the stage and earned their 1st place finish, but every single class performed with heart, pride, and creativity. The results reflect the effort and passion our students poured into their performances. This is exactly what Sharkchella is about — talent, teamwork, and Shark spirit on full display.”

Public Information Officer and Simon Sanchez alumnus Damen Michael A. Borja shared his thoughts on the overall experience, “Being in that gym and feeling the energy from the crowd, the students, and the performers was something special. Sharkchella isn’t just about competition — it’s about the experience of watching our students step out of their comfort zones, support one another, and pour their creativity onto the stage. As an alumnus, it was exciting and honestly heart-filling to see that same Shark pride still roaring strong.”
