Kent J. Neumeister passed away February 5, 2026 peacefully in his sleep.   He was born on February 18, 1944 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Harvey A. and Alta B. (Lucas) Neumeister.

He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1962 as Valedictorian. While at the University of Nebraska, he participated in honors courses/programs, and the freshman baseball team. He was selected to Phi Beta Kappa and Innocents Society (Men's Senior Honorary). During his senior year, Kent was elected the first president of the Associated Students of the University of Nebraska (ASUN), which still exists today at UNL. After graduating from UNL in 1966, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Kent graduated from Harvard Law School in 1969 and again in 1972 earning a Master's in Law.   Kent joined the Creighton University School of Law in 1973 until present. During his 53 years at Creighton, Kent devoted his life to teaching and his students. He was approved in January 2026 to receive the rank of Professor Emeritus, Creighton School of Law, in recognition of his ability and accomplishments.

His memberships include: professional, humanities, performing arts, and wildlife/environmental preservation. Kent loved his famlly, classical music, performing arts, award-winning movies, Nebraska football, Creighton basketball and shopping.  Above all, Kent loved the law, life-long learning, and teaching.

Kent is survived by his sister Nesha (Glen) Schumann of Lincoln, NE, nephew Kyle (Megan) Schumann of Hickman, NE. and their children Caleb and Leah, other relatives, colleagues and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday; Feb. 28, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City; burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery at Nebraska City.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday; Feb. 27, 2026 at Gude Mortuary.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Creighton University School of Law~Neumeister Fund or the University of Nebraska Foundation~ Neumeister Fund.
