Another overnight spike greeting drivers at the pump on Tuesday, now the seventh surge in six weeks of the ongoing Iran conflict.

The cost of gas jumped another ¢20 and diesel inching its way closer to $10 per gallon with a ¢65 spike.

This latest escalation comes amid growing threats. President Trump warned Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz by 10 a.m. Wednesday local time, or they’ll be “living in hell.”

“We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o'clock tomorrow night. Where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding and never to be used again,” said President Trump.

As the strait remains closed, the major fuel disruption is already impacting Guam's economy.

During KUAM’s “The Interview” segment last week, Guam Visitors Bureau President and CEO Regine Biscoe Lee says airlines are already reducing capacity and increasing fuel surcharges as the cost of jet fuel rises.

“Smaller destinations like Guam are on the short-end of the stick. So you’ll see some low cost carriers start to reduce capacity, and that is a tremendous impact on our island where every single seat counts,” Lee said.

GVB is reprogramming $2 million in airline incentive funds to address this immediate crisis, but she says $7 million is needed to fully offset the impacts.

“That’s something we’re going to have to work with the members of the legislature and the administration to figure out where we go from here,” added Lee.

Meanwhile, shipping surcharges from carriers like Matson and Triple B Forwarders are expected to surge 29% later this month, driving up the cost of all imported goods.

This according to Tourism Oversight Chair Senator Jesse Lujan who urged the Governor to declare a state of emergency on the fuel and cost of living crisis.

As reported, the Governor rejected the emergency declaration, saying fuel supply remains stable at this time.
