BEATRICE – It may not have been on the scale of the National Mall in Washington D.C. or Minneapolis, but a No Kings rally on a much smaller scale in southeast Nebraska Saturday, brought out those who are concerned about the direction of the country.

Citizens met at Charles Park in Beatrice to voice their concerns and protest. Don Schuller of rural Wymore….a former Gage County Supervisor and retired from the Natural Resources Conservation Service…attended with his wife, Julie.

"We're getting people that we've never seen before, even coming from other towns...to come join us. I think that's good, the word is getting out. Younger people are joining us...where in the past, mostly old people like me, were involved. Regardless, it's good to see younger people pay attention, and get involved."

With the country now at war with Iran, that’s added to the economic pressures faced by Americans with high grocery protests, healthcare challenges and the surging cost of fuel.

"It's discouraging...and not to hopeful. And, if the war does end, then what? If we get the Straight of Hormuz open back up and can get some oil flowing out of there and bring the gas prices down. Every day is a new day and something else that goes wrong."

Rallies against President Donald Trump could end up being one of the largest protests in U.S. history. Organizers noted more than 3,100 events were registered in all 50 states and several other countries, with more than 9 million people estimated.

"I fear for out Democracy that things will change....the power of our vote. I believe the young people see that, as well. I'm tired of all this rhetoric that we have...and the insults that are thrown around."

The rally at the Minnesota Capitol in St. Paul was the U.S. flagship event, recognizing the state as the epicenter of resistance to Trump’s immigration crackdown.

The White House dismissed the rallies….a spokesperson describing them as the product of “leftist funding networks”.
