Grethe Schoenemann, 96, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, at Kimball Health Services.

Grethe Schoenemann was born on July 4, 1929, in Svenstrup, Denmark. She was 5 of 6 children and was the last one left. She attended school and later settled in Copenhagen, Denmark and became a postal inspector for many years.

She emigrated to Kimball, Nebraska in January of 1974 and married William (Bill) Schoenemann on March 2,1974. She was a DEVOTED farm wife and gained 3 stepchildren and many grandchildren.

She spent her time mowing and gardening on the farm, baking biscuits and Danish rye bread and cooking for the family gatherings and harvest parties. She also loved quilting, knitting and tatting with friends. She often told stories of Denmark and how beautiful it was in the spring. Grethe loved to show her Danes around western Nebraska. She enjoyed good food and company. She also traveled around visiting and meeting Danes that lived near her in Nebraska. She spoiled her dogs, cats, and even George the goose, sometimes. She really loved her wine, Skål!

Grethe was very active in the First English Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents Marinus and Mary Bagge, husband Bill, siblings Bōerge, Aksel, Birgit, Sōren, Karen, stepdaughter Rhonda Randall, nieces and nephews Karen, Bodil, and Torben.

Grethe is survived by her stepsons David (Terry) Schoenemann of Kimball, Stanley (Paula) Schoenemann of Crawford, her grandchildren Tamara (Scott) Smeltzer, Kirk (Deb) Schoenemann, Michelle (Ryan) Osmotherly, Melissa Schoenemann, Michael (Whitney) Schoenemann, Misty (Jerry) Johnson, Jennifer Randall, Nick Wendell, Kati Sears, Jon (Carrington) Wendall, Rob (Casey) Wendall and her great grandchildren Brett, Adam, Joshua, Camden, Nicole, Kayla, Peyton, Kylee, Alexis, Alyssa, Khloe, Kensington, Krew, Kreed, Matt, Kaylie, Jordan, Hannah, Austin, Tucker, Clarke, Brooks, Kaden, Kade, Abigail, her great-great grandchildren Maverick, Scout, Lexi, Aaliyah, Aisha, Arilynn, Aminah, and one on the way, nieces and nephews in Denmark, Mogens, Marianne, Hans, Iver, Lone, Søren, Mette, Helle, Dorte, and Kirsten.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball with Randy Bohac officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Kimball Cemetery, a luncheon will follow at the church. Friends can visit www.cantrellfh.com to share stories and condolences with the family. Memorials can be made to the Kimball Senior Citizens Center. The services for Grethe have been entrusted to Cantrell Funeral Home.
