Rodger “Junior” M. Johnson, age 72, of Hastings, Nebraska; formerly of Falls City, Nebraska and Yankton, South Dakota, passed away Monday, March 10, 2026 at his home. He was born July 17, 1953 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, the son of Mary Marie (nee McShannon) of Yankton, South Dakota and the late Rodger Johnson.
In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his wife Sarah Johnson.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his children Michael (Elizabeth) Johnson of Firth, Nebraska, Corey Johnson of Festus, Missouri and Nicole Welch of Hastings; grandchildren Logan Welch, Keegan Johnson, Makenna (Jason) Phillips, Reece Johnson, Deacon Pfohl, Kloey Johnson and Paige Johnson; sister Barbara (the late Sam) Colvin of Hastings; brothers Bill (Jennifer) Johnson of Sutton, Nebraska and Rod (Tamme) Johnson of Almena, Kansas; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rodger worked as a machine operator for over 36 years for Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a 1971 graduate of Bloomfield High School. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Huskers and Kansas City Chiefs, old western shows and game shows.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in the hospitality building, 2901 Douglas Ave., Yankton, South Dakota with inurnment immediately following at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton.
