University of Guam heartbeat initiative trains community in life-saving CPR and AED skills
The University of Guam Margaret P. Hattori-Uchima School of Health hosted a mass CPR and AED training event, aimed at strengthening life-saving readiness across the island.
Held at the UOG Calvo Fieldhouse, the heartbeat initiative brought together students, families, and community members for hands-on training in emergency response. Participants learned critical skills including chest compressions, AED use, and how to respond to cardiac arrest.
The training was led by certified instructors from multiple community partners and followed American Heart Association standards. By the end of the event, all 100 participants earned CPR and aed certification.
Officials say the initiative highlights the importance of preparedness, noting that immediate CPR and early defibrillation can significantly increase survival rates.
The school of health says the heartbeat initiative is part of a long-term effort to expand access to life-saving training and build a stronger emergency response network across Guam.
