$100 Million secured for Fort Laramie Tunnel project to protect 55,000 acres of farmland
A massive win today for producers in Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming.
WASHINGTON -- A massive win today for agricultural producers in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming.
The Trump administration has officially awarded 100 million dollars to the Fort Laramie Tunnel Rehabilitation Project.
This federal investment aims to repair and enhance the vital canal that supports nearly 55,000 acres of farmland.
Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer says the funding is a win for "responsible government," returning tax dollars to local infrastructure.
“This is a historic and much-needed investment to finally repair the irrigation tunnels that western Nebraska ag producers rely on,” said Fischer.
It builds on 14 point 6 million dollars Fischer and Nebraska Congressman Adrian Smith secured in the 2026 Energy and Water bill.
Smith calls the project the "lifeblood" of the region and says he's working to get water flowing at full capacity soon.
"I look forward to working with the Trump administration to ensure that this funding is appropriately distributed so both Nebraska and Wyoming are able to reap its full benefits,” said Smith.
