Troopers respond to dozens of incidents during Nebraska winter storm
One person killed in Lancaster County crash as blizzard-like conditions impacted travel

LINCOLN, Neb. — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol responded to more than 40 weather-related incidents during Sunday’s winter storm.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, troopers investigated six crashes, performed 43 motorist assists and assisted other agencies with six additional responses as blizzard-like conditions impacted parts of the state.
One of those crashes turned deadly in Lancaster County Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say a Kia traveling westbound on Highway 34 near mile marker 315 lost control around 3:32 p.m. due to whiteout conditions. The vehicle crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with a Ford F-150.
The driver of the Kia, Ladonna Craig, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were transported to Bryan East Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers also worked with 15 other agencies on a major crash along Interstate 80 near the 420 interchange in Cass County. Officials say a crash involving three vehicles escalated into a multi-vehicle pileup involving 30 to 40 vehicles.
The Nebraska State Patrol reminds drivers to check the Nebraska 511 system for current road conditions and closures. Motorists who become stranded can call the NSP Highway Helpline by dialing *55 to reach a dispatcher.
