Tropical Depression Nuri forms
The National Weather Service Guam Weather Forecast Office is now tracking Tropical Depression Nuri, formerly Invest 95W.
As of 1pm the system was located about 575 miles west-southwest of Guam, moving southwest with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. Forecasters say Nuri could strengthen into a tropical storm overnight before gradually weakening beginning Friday.
The system is expected to turn northeast toward the Marianas, with a projected passage near or north of Anatahan. At this time, tropical storm-force winds are not expected for Guam, but officials say any shift southward could bring stronger winds to the island.
For Guam, residents can expect:heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms through the next 48–60 hours, wind gusts up to 35 mph and 2 to 4 inches of rain,with locally higher amounts possible from Thursday through Friday night.
