Inmate escape attempt
Justin Roy Quinata Aguon used towels to cover barbed wire before climbing over the prison fence
An inmate at the Guam Department of Corrections is facing additional charges after allegedly attempting to escape the prison early Sunday morning.
According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in superior court, 31-year-old Justin Roy Quinata Aguon used towels to cover barbed wire before climbing over the prison fence around 1:46am.
Authorities say Aguon did not get far. After leaving the secure area, he walked toward the Prison Operations Center where he encountered a corrections officer and was taken back into custody.
Aguon reportedly told police he attempted to leave due to family reasons and because he owed debts to other inmates who had been threatening him. He also claimed inmates had been taking his food and he feared he would be physically harmed.
He has been charged with felony escape as a third-degree felony.
