JANSEN - Fire crews in southeast Nebraska have mostly contained a field fire that threatened multiple properties near Jansen Monday evening.

The fire began in a field about eight miles northeast of Fairbury around 5:30 PM Monday.

Fire crews from Jansen, Fairbury and Plymouth were on the scene within a few minutes. Firefighters on scene said their first priority was to set up a perimeter to prevent the fire from impacting two nearby residences and properties.

Crews manning water tenders, grass rigs and fire engines were able to extinguish the initial fire and eliminate the human threat by around 6:15.

Most of the crew began to leave the scene around 6:45. No injuries were reported, but firefighters on scene said they expected to remain in the area into the night to cut down the remaining flare ups and ensure the danger is eliminated.
