Kearney hosts annual Women’s March to celebrate progress and civic engagement
The event brings together community members for education, solidarity, and a march at Harmon Park
KEARNEY, Neb. — Kearney will welcome participants this Saturday, March 7, for the annual Women’s March — an event celebrating the accomplishments of women and promoting civic awareness and engagement.
The march is part of a rotating series across Nebraska communities, with Kearney hosting this year at Harmon Park from 1 to 3 p.m.
Joni Kuzma, one of the organizers, says the march began about a decade ago as a way for women to come together to celebrate achievements and continue the fight for equality.
“It’s a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made while also thinking about what still needs to be done," said Kuzma.
The event is designed to be non-partisan and educational, featuring presentations from local organizations and interactive activities.
Participants are encouraged to bring signs reflecting their messages and join in a solidarity walk around the park to close the event.
Kuzma emphasized that the march is meant to provide actionable steps for participants.
“Our goal is to educate women on simple ways they can protect their rights and support their communities. Whether that’s writing letters, speaking out, or staying informed, every action matters,” she said.
Community members are also invited to give back by donating personal care items such as full-size body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion for the Safe Center.
