Guam son Jeffrey Mesa to represent at the Shuriken Fight Series 23

Professional combat sports athlete Jeffrey Mesa will depart Guam on Wednesday for Auckland, New Zealand, where he is scheduled to compete this Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Shuriken Fight Series 23.

The event will be broadcast globally on UFC Fight Pass, positioning Mesa before an international audience on one of the sport’s premier digital platforms.

Mesa is set to face rising prospect Oliver Schmidt, a highly regarded talent who trains out of the same elite camp as UFC world champion Israel Adesanya.

In preparation for this international contest, Mesa completed the majority of his training camp at Spike Studio 22 alongside the Spike 22 team, sharpening his conditioning, tactical discipline, and striking precision.

He further refined his preparation through sessions at Heights Academy and supplemental grappling work with Carbs Jiu-Jitsu. Mesa also incorporated high-level sparring rounds at RM Sports alongside Guam’s champion and UFC veteran Roque Martinez, ensuring he enters fight week having tested himself against proven, world-class experience.

Accompanying Mesa to Auckland will be Guam MMA legend Kyle Aguon, who has trained alongside and mentored Mesa since he first entered the sport approximately 15 years ago.

“Without Kyle Aguon’s tutelage, there is no Jeff Mesa today,” Mesa stated. “He has been there since the beginning, through the early days, the setbacks, and the growth. I am deeply grateful for his mentorship, his belief in me, and the foundation he helped build. To have him in my corner on this stage is something I do not take lightly.”

As Mesa prepares to step into the cage on Saturday night, he does so with purpose, preparation, and the support of a community that continues to believe in Guam’s fighting tradition.
