The U.S. Coast Guard has accepted delivery of the 62nd fast response cutter the USCGC Vincent Danz, in Key West — marking another expansion of Guam’s maritime capabilities.
The vessel will become the fourth fast response cutter homeported on island, joining the USCGC Myrtle Hazard, USCGC Oliver Henry, and USCGC Frederick Hatch.
A commissioning ceremony is scheduled for May in New York City, with the cutter expected to arrive in Guam in late summer.
The sentinel-class fast response cutter replaces the 1980s-era island-class patrol boats and features modern command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, along with improved habitability for crews.
The cutter is named in honor of Vincent Danz — a New York City police officer, US Marine Corps veteran, and Coast Guard Reserve port security specialist who was killed while responding to the September 11, 2001 attacks. He was posthumously awarded the NYPD Medal of Honor.
Guam’s growing fleet of fast response cutters continues to support bilateral maritime law enforcement operations, regional maritime security missions, humanitarian assistance, and search and rescue efforts throughout the Western Pacific and Micronesia.
