Pine Bluffs boys and girls basketball teams are on their way to state
Solid performances at regionals have put the Hornets on the road to Casper
The Pine Bluffs lady hornets will play in the opening round of the Wyoming State Championship Thursday, March 5th. The state tournament berth comes at the end of this weekend's roller coaster regional tournament.
The lady hornets beat Moorcroft 45-33 on Thursday but were forced into the consolation bracket after a 39-36 loss to Sundance on Friday. Saturday morning, Pine got a big win over Wright 53-20 for a chance to play again in the afternoon. That game didn't go as well as Big Horn narrowly defeated the hornets 41-38.
That put the lady hornets in 4th place in the 2A East Region and put them on the bracket for the state tournament. They play Thermopolis on Thursday at 5:00 pm at Casper College.
The boys team had a first round bye thanks to their #2 seeding at regionals. They played Wright on Friday, defeating them 62-46. The hornets Saturday game was more challenging against Big Horn. The hornets were forced to comeback but took the game 52-42. They are the 2A East Region Champions.
The Hornets enter the state tournament as the #1 seed and will play Rocky Mountain at 8:00pm Thursday at Casper College.
