Mark A. Zabokrtsky, 68, of Diller, also known as “Little Zab,” passed away Thursday afternoon, February 26, 2026, at the Jefferson Community Health Center in Fairbury after a short battle with cancer. He was born on February 24, 1958, in Beatrice to Ronald and Helen (Ebeling) Zabokrtsky. Mark was a 1976 graduate of Beatrice High School. On September 7, 1979, he married Patricia Engelman at the United Church of Christ of rural Harbine. To this union two children were born, son, Shawn and daughter, Misty. He attended law enforcement training in Grand Island and became an officer and maintenance worker for the village of Diller. He then went on another adventure and applied at BSDC working in direct care, security, and maintenance for over 25 years until back problems caused early retirement. Mark enjoyed motorcycle riding, traveling, camping, fishing, and hunting with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Patty Zabokrtsky of Diller; son, Shawn (Jill) Zabokrtsky of Diller; daughter, Misty (Justin) Gibson of Beatrice; grandchildren, Xavier and Griffin of Diller and Andie Jo, Reese, Drew, and Zoey of Beatrice; brother, David “Big Zab” Zabokrtsky of Herkimer, KS; sister, Nancy (Jim) D’Agostino of Michigan; brothers-in-law, LaVern (Cheryl) Engelman of Beatrice and Larry Engelman of Diller; many nieces, nephews and cousins; his dog, Frankie, which he enjoyed giving rides. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald “Buck” and Helen Zabokrtsky; parents-in-law, Willard and Margaret Engelman; brother-in-law, Gordon Engelman; sister-in-law, Brenda Zabokrtsky.
It was Mark’s wish to use cremation and have no formal services at this time. The family will announce a celebration of life at a later date.
